Detroit Chapter came into existence in 2006. In 2008, the chapter organized the first fundraiser; a successful music show with help from SEF headquarters in the Bay Area. Other activities include setting up booths during India's Independence Day celebration, TANA conferences, Telangana conference, and local religious and cultural events.
We also raise funds, by partnering with major regional associations, through "Giving back to Community" music events. Other plans include partnering with local organizations in the future. In March 2014, Sangam- a trigulbandi of Hindustani, Carnatic Music and Odissi Dance was organized with leading artists from India.
Our plans also include Dandia events, Donor appreciation dinner, and increased participation in local events to raise awareness and promote Sankara Eye Foundation's mission. We continue to strengthen our volunteer team by reaching out to University students and regional associations in and around Detroit. Detroit Chapter needs volunteers all year round. Please join us to eradicate the curable blindness in India.
