SEF, USA partnering with Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital to bring 300 Bed Hospital to Bihar.
As we continue to explore the various means of increasing free surgery capacity in rural India, SEF USA and AJEH are planning the construction of a 300 bed Center of Excellence to be located in the immediate vicinity of the existing hospital at Mastichak. Fundraising campaigns are already underway to raise the necessary capital for this project.
This is an especially exciting development as the project has the potential to double the free eye surgery capacity at the Mastichak location and AJEH will further establish itself as the pre-eminent eye hospital in Bihar, providing high quality free cataract surgeries and other eye care services in one of the neediest parts of India. The project will offer eye care services under world class protocols in a post COVID-19 scenario.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-2022 and will ramp up to its full capacity (for free surgeries) by 2023-24, at which time the Mastichak location will have a capacity of over 80,000 free surgeries. The project is expected to become operational self-sustaining by 2027-28 by forecasting a 70:30 ratio of free: paid surgeries.
