Association with SEF, USA:

SEF, USA has been engaged with MGMEI since early 2018, when we agreed to provide the capital funding for the construction of two state of the art modular operating theaters OT1 and OT2 at a cost of INR 2.95 Crores. This was part of a larger 5 OT construction project at MGMEI. We mutually agreed that the two OTs funded by SEF USA would be exclusively for the purpose of conducting free cataract surgeries. Further, we agreed that in return the funding assistance, MGMEI will allocate a total of 20,000 free surgeries to the SEF, USA over a period of 4-5 years. These OTs became operational in February 2019. We have thus far been allocated about 6,400 free cataract surgeries, as of end-March 2020. As MGMEI strengthens its outreach model and its leadership team, we expect the rate of annual free cataract surgeries to increase. As stated earlier, MGMEI is an operationally self-sustaining institute that ensures that its mix of free: paid surgeries enables this financial model, thereby obviating the dependency on external funding for its operations. MGMEI prides itself on providing high quality of service to all its patients, which in turn is enabled by a strong medical team, and modern equipment and infrastructure. This is reflected in their consistently excellent post-surgery visual acuity outcomes.

Going forward, MGMEI plans to ramp up the volume of its free surgery services, nearly doubling the annual volume of free cataract surgeries by 2025, as they mature in the execution of their outreach model to ensure greater number camp with a larger area coverage and better camp productivity. This will be achieved while maintaining its medical quality and emphasis on financial self-sustenance.
