The Hospital:
The Trust Vision India Foundation (VIF) was set up in the year 2008 by Dr Shiva Prasad Sahoo with a goal to eliminate preventable causes of blindness, especially among the needy people of Odisha, and an emphasis on tribal and un-reached areas. Since its inception, VIFhas set up 3 eye care units in Odisha, one each of the districts of Sambalpur, Jagatsinghpur& Kalahandiserving a total of 18 districts with a population of about 23 Million. VIF’s team consists of 5 residential doctors, 4 visiting doctors & a group of around 85 clinical &nonclinical staff. They currently operate on an 85:15 ratio of free: paid surgeries, and financial sustainability depend substantially on external donations to meet its financial commitments and expenses.

Born in a low-income family, Dr. Shiva had to overcome many challenges to get into the medical profession. Being imbibed by the good education, he decided to pay back to the society after enjoying free education for 7 years. After completion of post-graduation, he decided to stay back to serve the needy and poor people of western Odisha. He is one of the high volume cataract surgeons in India who has the ability to operate more than 200 cataract surgeries per day and has restored sight to around hundred thousand cataract blind people of Odisha.

Association with SEF, USA:
SEF, USA has been engaged with Trilochan Netralaya since 2018 when we provided funding of about INR 1 Crore to help the institution overcome some immediate financial liabilities, thereby enabling it to continue its operations and provide services to the needy populations in its service area. In return for this funding assistance, we have received about 4,700 free cataract surgeries through March 2020. Their short-term (5 year) growth plans include the setting up of a new state of the art tertiary eye care center in Sambalpur and a well-equipped secondary eye care center at Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi. Additionally VIF would like to start a chain of IT enabled vision centers (5 vision centers by 2025) in western Odisha so that people from rural areas can get treatment for minor ailments closer to their villages.
